It's legal. Florida home education law lets parents direct all curriculum — no required subjects or hours (s. 1002.41 & 1002.01, F.S.).
It's what doctors prescribe. Health guidelines call for 60 minutes of activity a day — basketball is a named example of vigorous, bone-strengthening exercise.
Scholarship money can pay for it. Florida's PEP scholarship ($7,463–$12,217 per student for 2026–27, varies by county/grade) covers "sports lessons, including individual training or group training," team fees, and equipment under its official P.E. category.
The paperwork is a 4-step play. Notice of intent → contemporaneous practice log → annual evaluation → (optional) school-team ball under the Craig Dickinson Act.
